Instructor and Choreographer for The Force Dance Company
Dance Instructor Emily Stevens started dancing at Broadway Bound when she was 5 years old and went on to join The Force at age 7. She competed as a member of the force for five years before continuing her training at the New Jersey School of Ballet. Emily received her formal ballet training from the New Jersey School of Ballet under the direction of Carolyn C. Clark. During her time at New Jersey Ballet she performed alongside their main company as a member of New Jersey Ballet Junior Company. She has been instructed by New Jersey Ballet artistic advisor and Miami City Ballet founder Edward Villella. Here she danced numerous roles in ballets such as The Nutcracker, Giselle, and Don Quixote. Emily had the opportunity to attend American Ballet Theaters Summer Intensive for two consecutive summers where she studied under former ABT principal Wes Chapman and Boston and Miami City Ballet former principal Mikhail Ilyin, as well as three summers at the French Academie of Ballet under the direction of Francois Perron and one summer at the Joffrey Ballet School. She also attended a summer intensive with BalletX where she trained alongside their company and was instructed by the company director, former Philadelphia Ballet dancer, Christine Cox and others. Emily graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 2021 receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance on artistic scholarship. Here she received training under Michael Sheridan, Anne White, Martha Chamberlain, and Amy Aldridge, all former members of Pennsylvania Ballet, and Gary Jeter, former company member of Complexions, Philadanco, and BalletX. She has also had the opportunity to be in works by Douglas Becker and Helen Pickett, both former dancers for Ballett Frankfurt under director William Forsythe. During her time at UArts she also had the honor of teaching at The Rock School for Dance Education. Emily performed with the Ajkun Ballet Theater for a year after graduating as well as returning to dance as a guest performer in New Jersey Ballet’s run of 22 Nutcracker shows. After spending the year traveling and performing in New Jersey and NewYork, Emily has decided to dedicate her time to teaching and choreographing for all of the amazing dancers at Broadway Bound. Though she thoroughly enjoyed her time as a performer, she believes teaching is where her passion truly lies! Emily began teaching and choreographing for BBDC in 2020 and cannot wait to spend many more years with the wonderful staff and students! |
